Established by the South Place Ethical Society, the Conway Hall has become a landmark of London's intellectual, political and cultural life. We have ten rooms of various sizes available for hire at reasonable rates.

Main Hall The Main Hall has removable seating allowing for a variety of configurations:
  • standing up to 500
  • theatre style up to 300 ground floor + 175 balcony + 25 standing
  • informal cabaret up to 285
  • seated dinner up to 192
  • board style up to 50
  • stalls eg bookfair up to 37 stalls (more possible with additional rooms)

The Main Hall floor dimensions are 15.6m x 13.6m (52ft. x 45.5ft.) and the Stage 8.1m x 3.9m (27ft. x 13ft.). It is designed for meetings, classical music concerts, recordings, rehearsals, dances -- any function requiring a large floor area.

We hold a public entertainment licence events. A grand piano is available for hire for bona fide classical music events.

The Foyer features a reception desk which can be used as a Box Office, and is available to hirers of the Main Hall.

Self-catering is permitted with self-catering facilities are available at an extra charge. Self-catering facilities include the Lobby Room (off the Foyer), the Kitchen and the Brockway Room (see below) for serving. The Bertrand Russell Room (see below) may be booked as a separate cloakroom or creche

     
Brockway Room ("Small Hall") The Brockway Room on the ground floor is 11.2m x 6.6m (37.5ft. x 22ft.) Suitable for meetings, classes, rehearsals, book launches, auditions etc. Alternatively, it can be used to used to serve the Main Hall at larger social functions. Capacity of the Brockway Room is 30 board style or 50-100 theatre style depending on layout. The Brockway Room has a hardwood floor and natural light.
     
Bertrand Russell Room The Bertrand Russell Room has a capacity of 16 board style or 30-45 theatre style. It is 7.6m x 4.6m (25ft x 15ft) and adjacent to the Brockway Room on the ground floor. This room faces north and benefits from ample natural light.
     
Club Room The Club Room is backstage on the third floor (no lift). It is especially suited to non-musical rehearsals, movement classes and informal meetings. Seating capacity is 16 board style or 20-50 theatre style. The Club Room is a T-shaped and approximately 700 sq ft. Natural light and small tea-making area.  
     
Artists Room The Artists Room is backstage on the second floor (no lift). It is a small, bright room suitable for committee meetings and small classes seating up to 12 board style of 18 in informal theatre style. Size is 5m x 3.6m (17 ft x 12 ft). Natural light.  
     
Tower Rooms 1/2/3 Each of the three Tower Rooms seat up to 10 people in board style or 15 people informally. All "Tower Rooms" rooms have windows. Tower 1 and 2 are each 4.5m x 3.6m (15ft x 12ft). Tower 3 is 4.5m x 3.3m (15ft x 11 ft).  
     
  Note: All seated capacities are maximum allowable. Seating configurations other than as indicated will reduce capacity.  
     
How to Make an Booking Inquiry The bookings department is open Monday to Friday from 10.00h to 17.00h. Inquiries are welcome by telephone, fax or in person.

You will be asked to complete an Inquiry Form. We will then advise costs. Full payment is required to order to proceed.

Payments are accepted by cash or cheque made payable to "South Place Ethical Society".

A separate damage/excess deposit may be required for certain kinds of events and for first-time hirers.

Filming/Recording /Photography Conway Hall is often used as a location for film and television shoots, photography and press conferences.

The Main Hall features excellent acoustics which have been featured on numerous CDs and in live broadcasts.

Special written authorisation is required for any filming, recording or photography. Please contact the Hall Manager for further details.

 
     
Hours of Operation Our standard hours of operation are 09.00h to 22.00h seven days a week year round.

Booking sessions are Daytime 09.00h to 17.00h or Evening 18.00h to 22.00h. Full day bookings 09.00h to 22.00h are also accepted. Half-day bookings are considered on request and are generally not available at weekends.

Social events and concerts, by special arrangement, can continue to 23.00h (Monday to Thursday) or midnight (Friday/Saturday).

Please note the Main Hall is generally not available for hire on Sunday afternoons/evenings from October to April due to our regular chamber music series.

 
     
Catering Self-catering is permitted for events in the Main Hall. The Lobby Bar and Kitchen will be reserved for Main Hall users at a nominal extra charge.

For larger events we require the addition of the Brockway Room to facilitate service.

In rooms other than the Main Hall, hirers are permitted to arrange their own coffee/tea.

Hirers must provide their own crockery/supplies and are responsible for clean-up at the end of the event.

At present, Conway Hall does not offer in-house catering. We are happy to give details regarding outside caterers who are familiar with the Hall.

 
     
Licences Entertainment: We have a standard public entertainment licence for the Main Hall. Classical music and spoken word public events are also permitted in the Fenner Brockway Room.

Alcohol: Alcohol may be served only with the prior written authorisation of Hall Management and provided that the applicable licence has been obtained and copied to us a least two weeks before the event.

Performing Rights: Any event featuring music will be subject to fixed charge (currently £55 to £105 for live classical music or £30 for other music events).

 
     
Special Needs Mobility: Facilities for people with restricted mobility e.g wheelchair users include ground level access to the Main Hall, Brockway Room, Bertrand Russell Room, Lobby area and toilets. We regret the Hall does not have a lift.

Young children: Nappy changing facilities are available on the ground floor. Creche facilities can be arranged.
