Conway Hall is a busy venue with 100,000 visitors a year and 2,500 events large and small. We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated professional who will assist in the smooth delivery of events and performances. Successful candidates will provide excellent customer service in line with the ethos and values of Conway Hall, will support the delivery of successful events, and maintain a safe, well-presented and welcoming environment at all times.

Key Tasks
- To ensure the smooth delivery of all internal and external events at Conway Hall, liaising with clients and hirers, caterers and the AV/PA provider during events
- To manage the setting up and breaking down rooms for a range of different events throughout the day and to assist in rapid turnover of space between events
- To contribute to a culture of customer care within Conway Hall by always providing a welcoming and accessible atmosphere for all visitors to the building
- To be a highly visible and helpful presence at all times while on duty at Conway Hall
- To manage health and safety briefings with hirers
- To ensure all public areas of Conway Hall are clean and well-presented at all times
- Prepare a daily incident report logging visitor, partner and client feedback, maintenance issues and reporting any incidents that occur on the premises
- To implement health and safety policies and protocols while on duty and observe Risk Assessment measures, and to ensure clients abide by agreed terms of hire
- To conduct regular health and safety checks including a weekly fire alarm test and record accidents and near misses
- Be a trained first aider dealing with any incidents that occur during a shift. Training will be given if necessary
- Be a trained fire warden. Training will be given if necessary
- Ensure the building complies with all licensing policies while on duty
- To communicate with fellow Duty Managers and Operations Manager as needed to ensure a seamless handover before and after each shift
- To work as part of a team representing Conway Hall’s ethos, style and values
- Provide refreshments to hires as required
General
- Comply with Conway Hall’s policies
- Undertake training, as required
- Any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of Operations
- Support the culture of fundraising throughout Conway Hall’s activities and staff
- Participate actively in the life of the Society and venue
Person Specification Essential Criteria
- Experience of customer care
- Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills
- An ability to work with a wide range of people and to manage professional relationships effectively
- An ability to work on own initiative and to problem solve and prioritise workload
- An ability to remain calm under pressure and to take the lead during emergencies
- Good time management and an ability to manage competing demands
- Ability to actively manage setting up and clearing events spaces
- Good IT skills and experience
- Willingness to work unsocial hours including evenings and weekends (which will also mean working alone and being the only member of staff present)
Desirable experience/skills
- Knowledge of statutory regulations and policies regarding public buildings
- Knowledge and understanding of venue health and safety requirements
- Experience of working within a contemporary cultural building environment
- Be a personal licence holder. Training will be provided if not.
- Knowledge of one or more subject matters in the Society’s field of interest
Terms
Role: Duty Manager, Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £26,812 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours based on five shifts a week worked between Monday and Sunday
Location: Conway Hall 25 Red Lion Square, London, WC1R 4RL
Reports to: Head of Operations
Annual Leave: Pro rata 24 days per annum, plus one week over the Christmas holiday period, (all based upon 37.5 hours per week)
Probation period: Three months
Pension: An optional stakeholder pension scheme is available. Employee contribution of 3% is matched by 5% from the employer.
