Electric Voice Theatre: Acapella Summer School

Join Electric Voice Theatre for a rare opportunity to work with unique acapella ensemble techniques through the music of Women Composers.

The course takes place in a supportive environment and is designed to boost each singer’s professional development both as an individual vocalist and a highly skilled ensemble member.

BODY & BREATH – vocal warm ups to build your voice alongside the group’s identity
MUSIC & MEMORY – discover the freedom of singing confidently from memory
COOPERATIVE REHEARSAL – using critical thinking to make positive contributions
DEMOCRATISING RHYTHM – synchronising a collective sense of internal pulse
LISTENING IN TUNE – what does singing in tune really mean to the true acapella voice?
COMMUNICATION IN PERFORMANCE – dramatic audience connection (including British Sign Language and Integrated Audio Description) – how can your breath help tell the story?

Central to the experience will be some disgracefully neglected, yet inspiring repertoire by women composers connected with the ethical traditions of Conway Hall eg. Imogen Holst (1907 –1984), Ethel Smyth (1858 – 1944) Judith Weir, Nicola Lefanu, Eliza Flower (1803 – 1846) and more.

This course will be led by Frances M Lynch (Artistic Director, Electric Voice Theatre), with sessions from mezzo Jenny Miller, tenor and pianist, Laurence Panter (Barefoot Opera), british sign language interpreter Lauren Lister and composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad.
