Duty Manager (Full time, permanent)

Role
Reporting to the Head of Operations & Visitor Experience, you will assist in the smooth delivery of a wide range of events and performances at our busy venue. Working both independently and as part of a passionate team, you will provide excellent customer service whilst maintaining a safe, welcoming and well presented environment at all times.

Key Tasks

  1. Ensure the smooth delivery of all internal and external events, liaising with clients, hirers, caterers and external companies
  2. Set up and break down rooms and furniture for various events throughout the day, managing the rapid turnover of spaces between events
  3. Be a highly visible and helpful presence at all times whilst on duty
  4. Manage health and safety briefings with hirers
  5. Contribute to a culture of customer care by providing a welcoming and accessible atmosphere for all visitors to the building
  6. Ensure all public areas are well presented at all times
  7. Assessment measures, and ensure clients abide by agreed terms of hire
  8. Conduct regular health and safety checks including weekly fire alarm tests, and record accidents and near misses
  9. Ensure the building complies with all licensing policies whilst on duty
  10. Prepare a daily incident report logging visitor, partner and client feedback, maintenance issues and any incidents that occur on the premises
  11. Communicate with fellow DMs and the Visitor Experience Manager to enure seamless handovers before and after each shift

General

  1. Comply with Conway Hall’s policies
  2. Undertake training, as required
  3. Any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of Operations & Visitor Experience
  4. Support the culture of fundraising throughout Conway Hall’s activities and staff
  5. Participate actively in the life of the Society

Person Specification Essential Criteria

  • Experience of customer care
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills
  • An ability to work with a wide range of people and to manage professional relationships effectively
  • An ability to work on own initiative and to problem solve and prioritise workload
  • An ability to remain calm under pressure and to take the lead during emergencies
  • Good time management and an ability to manage competing demands
  • Physical fitness and ability to actively manage setting up and clearing event spaces, including regular lifting and moving of furniture and equipment
  • Genuine enjoyment of hands-on, active work
  • Good IT skills and experience
  • Willingness to work unsocial hours depending on the events happening in the building which will include early starts, late finishes and working weekends

Desirable experience/skills

  • Knowledge of statutory regulations and policies regarding public buildings
  • Knowledge and understanding of venue health and safety requirements
  • Experience of working within a contemporary cultural building environment
  • Personal licence holder (or willingness to undertake training)
  • First aid qualification (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Fire warden qualification (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Knowledge of one or more subject matters in the Society’s field of interest

Terms

Role: Duty Manager, Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £27,884 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours based on five shifts a week worked between Monday and Sunday

Location: Conway Hall 25 Red Lion Square, London, WC1R 4RL

Reports to: Head of Operations & Visitor Experience

Annual Leave: 24 days per annum plus statutory bank holidays

Probation period: Three months

Pension: An optional stakeholder pension scheme is available. Employee contribution of 3% is matched by 5% from the employer.
