A world premiere from Joseph Cabon opens this richly English first half, framed by Howells at his most rhapsodic and elegiac. Peter Cigleris, a clarinettist with a growing reputation for his work uncovering British rarities, joins our Artistic Director Simon Callaghan for the soaring Clarinet Sonata, before the Piatti Quartet turn to Tchaikovsky’s youthful, melody-laden First Quartet to close a concert that pairs discovery with deep romantic warmth.

The event begins with a pre-concert talk with Dr Jonathan Clinch, organist and lecturer at Royal Academy of Music, who specialises in British music over the last two centuries.

This concert is generously supported by the Herbert Howells Society.

This event is in the Main Hall, which is located on the ground floor. The balcony is accessible only by stairs.

All the ground-floor rooms are accessible by wheelchair. Main Hall (street access, step-free), Brockway Room (street access, step-free), Bertrand Russell Room (street access, shallow ramp), Cafe (street access, step-free). There is also an accessible toilet on the ground floor opposite the Brockway Room.
