Join Andrey Kurkov to celebrate the publication of Diary of an Invasion. One of the most important Ukrainian voices throughout the Russian invasion, the author of Death and the Penguin and Grey Bees collects his searing dispatches from the heart of Kyiv. This journal of the invasion, a collection of Andrey’s writings and broadcasts from Kyiv, is a remarkable record of a brilliant writer at the forefront of a 21st-century war. Andrey will be in conversation with author Philippe Sands.
Andrey Kurkov is a writer, journalist, and the current president of PEN Ukraine. He was born in St Petersburg in 1961. Having graduated from the Kiev Foreign Languages Institute, he worked for some time as a journalist, did his military service as a prison warder in Odessa, then became a writer of screenplays and author of critically acclaimed and popular novels, including the bestselling Death and the Penguin. Kurkov has long been a respected commentator on Ukraine for the world’s media, notably in the U.K., France, Germany, and the United States.
Professor Philippe Sands, Q C is a renowned international lawyer, an award-winning author and President of English PEN. He has been involved in many of the most important international cases of recent years, including Pinochet, Congo, Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Iraq, Guantanamo and the Rohingya. His books include East West Street, winner of the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-fiction, Sunday Times bestselling The Ratline and most recently, The Last Colony.
