Bringing It Home

Artist Jayne Murray presents the culmination of two years of research and practice at Conway Hall – the home of ethical thought and dialogue – with her project, Bringing It Home.

The project bring’s together Jayne’s archival research into housing – including from the Conway Hall Library & Archives – and her long term work with the community in Druids Heath, a large 1960’s estate in Birmingham, built as council housing and currently the subject of gentrification.

Shown publicly for the first time, Bringing it Home will feature a new installation, Someone Else’s Dream, exploring the metrics and aspirations of housing, alongside a single-edition blueprint book, Dualities – printed using the cyanotype process employed by architects and planners prior to digitisation.

Jayne Murray is an artist based in Birmingham. Her work engages with social structures experienced by communities with whom she collaborates. She makes visual and experiential work rooted in research to make effect positive change.

On Sunday 27 September, Jayne will give an Ethical Matters talk exploring the legacy of artists who have connected their practice with social concerns, and used their voice to disrupt the status quo – to challenge the received wisdom and to posit alternatives. She will talk about her own practice and that of others, exploring the value that it holds for society.

This exhibition is in the Russell Room, which is located on the ground floor.

All the ground-floor rooms are fully accessible by wheelchair. Main Hall (street access, step-free), Brockway Room (street access, step-free), Russell Room (street access, shallow ramp), Cafe (street access, step-free). There is also an accessible toilet on the ground floor opposite the Brockway Room.
