 Creating Captivating Monologues and Micro-stories

Does your writing ever feel like it’s missing something? An emotional kick? A jaw-dropping revelation? A satisfying ending?

Do you ever get frustrated or blocked when working on a project, and waste hours, days, months waiting for that “perfect idea” to push you through?

Are you looking for a new approach to performance or short story writing?

This writing workshop will have you constantly creating as Sean Bruno (co-author of Creating Solo Performance), guides you through an eclectic mix of writing exercises (some clever, some technical, some ridiculous) designed to playfully invigorate your perspective and help you transform the most mundane observations into captivating story or monologue material.

Sean Bruno is a writer, performer and teacher based in London. He received his MA in Performance from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2005.

Sean’s solo performance practice walks a tight rope between poignancy and humour. His performances are stylistically shifting, engaging the audience in a form that is part-lecture, part-theatre and part-storytelling.

Much of Sean’s collaborative practice involves creating original narrative theatre and dance works. Since moving to London he has worked with numerous theatre, dance and performance companies including Theatre Nomad, The International Workshop Festival, Teatro Vivo, Lo Commotion Dance, Victoria Alark Danse (Sweden) and has built a long term collaboration with choreographer Jo Meredith (The Guardian’s Rising Star 2014).

In 2011 he co-founded the Centre For Solo Performance with writer/director Luke Dixon, author of Play Acting, as a place in which to support performers interested in creating solo work. Their book Creating Solo Performance was published by Routledge in August 2014 and has been called by The Stage “a welcome addition to an actor’s bookshelves”.
