Love, Song, Dance, Humour & Murder – Domitius retells the tale of infamous Roman Emperor Nero from an unbiased viewpoint merely paving the way for an audience to live and experience a snapshot of that particular reign in ancient Roman life. This thrilling new original musical, by a diverse group of writers, is set to a nostalgic ‘70s and ‘80s Soft and Hard Rock original score. Based on the true story of Nero, his larger-than-life antics and pursuit of a very empathetic dream of becoming a performer and musician. Domitius explores the unwavering desire to chase one’s truest dream in the face of adversity and the things one is willing to sacrifice in order to attain it.
The Domitius Production Collective LLP, through Domitius, are championing diversity in new original musical theatre both on and off-stage. They are hoping to inspire like-minded productions to usher in the return of theatre after the pandemic in a manner that is more representative of the wonderful diversity that exists within London.
Andrew Lloyd Webber and his Foundation’s 2016 Centre Stage report called for the Musical Theatre industry to, “[Theatres should] expand their repertoire to include more shows written by BAME playwrights” & “Take a lead in encouraging a more culturally diverse workforce”. Domitius is proud to have achieved both.
The production boasts a cast and creative comprising of;
- 50% underrepresented groups
- A creative team that’s 50% female and 50% underrepresented groups
- Is brought to stage by Black female director
- Was written and composed by three writers/producers who are Black, Asian and White
