 Five Secrets to Happy Children

Presenter: Kim Lee-Own

An evening discussion session, looking at 5 aspects of parenting that will help those with care of children to develop strategies that work to build respect, resilience, independence and resourcefulness – all essential qualities and strengths needed both in parents and children to make raising children an experience where everyone feels good!

Kim Lee-Own says: “one of the biggest secrets of happy children is happy parents. Raising children is one of the most complex, challenging tasks of our lives as adults and often we question whether there is some secret to doing a good job, that nobody told us! When things are difficult, we feel discouraged and as if we are bad parents for not knowing ‘the secret. The result is unhappy parents!

While there are probably many other ‘secrets’, the five secrets we will look at this evening are effective and can, when used consistently, help bring clarity, confidence and calm to parent–child interactions. This ‘taster’ will empower people who care for children to feel more in control of their strategies and feel good about themselves and their plans as they go about raising their children.

As a group we will explore ideas to uncover the biggest secret of all – you already have all the tools and strategies that you need to successfully survive the parenting years. We will use a combination of experiential work and discussion activities to explore the five secrets.”

Kim is an Adlerian counsellor, supervisor and facilitator, who works with parents in the community to find their own strengths and happiness in parenting their children. She also works as a tutor on the Adlerian Counselling programme in Cambridge.

Admission: £10 (£5 concessions on the door only).
