 How The Vote Was Won

A rehearsed reading of How The Vote Was Won, a short comic play written by Cicily Hamilton and Christopher St John to campaign for suffrage. This was one of many plays written and performed by the Actresses Franchise League between 1909 and 1913. How The Vote Was Won follows a man who doesn’t believe in suffrage – and his female relatives who have a cunning plan to persuade him otherwise.

The reading will be followed by a Q and A with Naomi Paxton, actress and editor of the Methuen Drama Book of Suffrage Plays.

Presented by Women At RADA, an initiative to promote gender equality in theatre and film.

This event is one of many taking place across the four-day Bloomsbury Festival.

No prior booking required.
