John Gray on Mars and Venus

Explore the dynamics of contemporary relationships as the author of Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus moves beyond his old model to meet the modern world.

John Gray’s Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus explored the most common challenges and misunderstandings between men and women and offered solutions for the world as it was twenty years ago. The book suggested that men and women communicate so differently that we might be from different planets – and gave us tools for closing the gap.

But the world has changed. New theories of gender have replaced old binaries; we have more freedom to move beyond the restrictions of traditional roles and embrace our authentic selves. The notion of a male breadwinner and female caregiver is a relic best consigned to history. Today we all want more – from our lives and from our relationships.

As the roles of men and women evolve, relationships must evolve as well. To meet our new needs, we require a new kind of relationship.

In this Sunday Sermon, John Gray he ventures beyond Mars and Venus to a brave new world – offering advice to navigate relationships in the 21st century.

ABOUT SUNDAY SERMONS

Since 2008 The School of Life has presented strictly secular Sunday Sermons exploring the values we should live by today. We ask maverick cultural figures to give us their take on the virtues to cling to or the vices to be wary of in our complex world. Expect persuasive polemics, pop-song hymns and buns and biscuits.

Dr. John Gray is the author of Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. USA Today listed Mars/Venus as number six among the most influential books of the last quarter century. In hardcover, it was the number one bestselling nonfiction book of the nineties. John Gray’s books are translated into approximately 45 languages in more than 100 countries. Dr. Gray’s more recent books include Mars and Venus in the Bedroom, Why Mars and Venus Collide, and Work With Me (with Barbara Annis). He has been profiled in Time, Forbes, USA Today, TV Guide, and People.
