Conway Hall Ethical Society presents; Harriet Law Infidel Feminist; Harriet Law was a deeply unrespectable woman. Freethinker feminist and socialist she abhorred religion condemned the institution of marriage and was the only woman on Karl Marx’s First International. A newspaper editor lecturer and Secularist activist in Victorian Britain her life and work were remarkable.; Dr. Laura Schwartz is Assistant Professor of Modern British History at the University of Warwick and the author of Infidel Feminism: Secularism Religion and Women’s Emancipation 1830-1914 (Manchester University Press 2013).
