London National Park City Fair
21st July 2018 · 11:00am - 5:00pm
In person | Virtual event
In 2019 London will become the world’s first National Park City.
The London National Park City is a movement to make the capital greener, healthier and wilder. For one of the greenest cities in Europe this is a chance to connect Londoners and London’s many visitors to the outdoors, and for the city to lead the way on sustainability, biodiversity and the environment.
The Mayor of London is championing our vision for London by hosting London’s first National Park City Week (21 – 29 July 2018), with a range of activities across the capital to coincide with the beginning of the school summer holidays.
We will be kicking off the week with the first ever London National Park City Fair. Organised by the National Park City Foundation, this is a free event with lots of interesting groups, speakers and ideas.
The Volunteering & Experiences Fair provides an opportunity to find out about groups and campaigns working across London, all aiming to help you get the most out of London and make a difference. Amongst the many stands you will find activities like urban food growing, rambling, car free days, citizen science, community story creation and mapping, and how to get into parkour. There will be opportunities to create artworks and, if you’re game, to get your hands muddy!
We’re also excited to be running an A-Z Field Guide to the London National Park City. Across the day there will be 26 short talks introducing fascinating aspects of London and interesting Londoners. We’ll hear how squirrels are affected by air pollution, consider people as ecosystems, learn about London’s volcanic past, explore how community action can lead to new and exciting changes, and much more! We’ll even have a talk by a dog.
You will also be able to join short, circular walks with experienced guides to explore the streets, parks and other spaces around Conway Hall in the context of topics such as urban climate, wildlife in London and urban tranquillity.
National Park City Makers will be on hand throughout the day to answer any questions you have about the National Park City and you’ll also be able to visit the National Park City Stand for more information.
Leave with a new view of London, how to get more involved and how to make a difference!
