Vache Baroque Festival presents:
Looking Bach: 300 Years Since the Well-Tuned Keyboard
19th November 2022 · 8:15pm - 9:45pm
Doors open: 7:30pm
In person
An exciting collection of musicians and artists will showcase two timeless collections by Johann Sebastian Bach compiled around 300 years ago: his ‘Well-Tempered Clavier’ Book 1, which has rightly gone down in history as a benchmark for keyboard composition, exhibiting pieces in all possible keys; and a scrapbook-style collection of pieces for keyboard and voices compiled in 1725 with his soprano wife Anna Magdalena.
This really is an evening for everyone to enjoy, where we will showcase Bach’s genius and craft from some unexpected angles. Our main players – Libby Burgess (piano) and David Gordon (harpsichord and jazz piano) – will give short talks, explanations, and demonstrations over the course of the main event to make sure nobody feels out of the loop, and with the installations and art pieces beforehand Bach-the-composer will truly be brought to life.
After the performance, our jazz musicians will carry on the party so you can relax into some socialising over drinks and food, just like Bach and his family were experts at doing!
