Pre-concert talk with Robert Hugill at 5.30pm in the Brockway Room:
‘I feel air from another planet’: Schoenberg’s second quartet includes a setting of the words ‘I feel air from another planet’ and this is very much the theme of the music from the evening’s concert. In the early 20th century composer’s were experimenting, not just with Schoenberg’s twelve-tone technique, but looking at music for new combinations of performers. Composers combined voices and chamber ensembles in new ways, and wrote music in new forms.
