‘We are all responsible for everyone else – but I am more responsible than all the others’ wrote Dostoyevsky. We will explore the ideas of three contemporary thinkers who argue that the character of our existence is truly defined by our stance towards others. We will focus on: Violence and the Sacred (1972) by Rene Girard; The Conflict of Interpretations(1969) by Paul Ricoeur; and Of Grammatology (1967) by Jacques Derrida.
