Prospects for a solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, with David Turner

This talk will review the origins of the Israel-Palestine conflict and the reasons why the international effort for a two-state solution based on the Oslo agreement of 1993 has failed. The causes for the failure of Oslo are largely in the agreement itself: the difficult issues were all postponed to a later date and, crucially, there was no prohibition on Israel continuing to expand its settlements. The settlement project may now have gone beyond the point of no return, removing the possibility of a meaningful Palestinian state. Paradoxically, this opens the door for more radical solutions to be considered. The speaker will outline the ethical and practical case for a single binational state in Israel/Palestine with equal rights for both peoples.

We charge a token entrance fee of £3 cash collected upon entry.

We run a charity wine bar the profits of which will be donated to David’s chosen charity is: Medical Aid for Palestine

Doors open at 18.30, please arrive early to mingle and enjoy a glass of wine, aiming to start the talk promptly at 19.00.

We advertise our events on multiple online portals, as well as through email circulars, so the RSVP numbers on any one portal will not reflect the actual greater attendance on the day.

We encourage dialogue, debate and sharing of information on our site but ask people to keep their comments cordial. Any views expressed here are those of the individual posting them and may not reflect those of the CLHG.
