Rhinegold LIVE: Melvyn Tan
28th February 2017 · 6:15pm - 8:30pm
In person | Virtual event

Melvyn Tan, acclaimed equally for his work on early and modern instruments, established his international reputation in the 1980s with pioneering performances on fortepiano and continues to cast fresh light on music conceived for the piano’s early and modern forms.
Born in Singapore in 1956, he showed prodigious musical talent during childhood and, at the age of twelve, came to England to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School, before enrolling at the Royal College of Music.
Melvyn’s work as recitalist, chamber musician and concerto soloist has been heard at many of the world’s leading concert halls, from the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and Vienna Konzerthaus to London’s Wigmore Hall and Royal Festival Hall and New York’s Lincoln Center.
We join Melvyn’s 60th birthday celebrations, exploring a new work written for his 60th year by Jonathan Dove, and repertoire featured on his new Onyx disc, due for release September 2016.
This concert is followed by an informal Q&A which will be conducted by Owen Mortimer, editor of International Piano magazine.
