Climate Opera Haus: Soria Moria

Conway Hall presents the world premiere of Soria Moria – a new Climate Opera by composer and pianist Stefania Passamonte, inspired by Nordic mythology and real-world climate science.

Soria Moria tells the story of Lucia, a young explorer who is drawn by the voice of Fossegrim, the ancient Water Spirit, to the melting Arctic ice. Guided by Zefira, the fierce West Wind, Lucia embarks on a mythical journey toward the legendary home of the Snow Queen, in a quest to restore winter and save the frozen world from irreversible warming.

Blending folklore and contemporary environmental themes, the opera unfolds across enchanted forests, Nordic villages and the icy realm of Niflheim. What begins as a fairy tale becomes a powerful reflection on climate responsibility, scientific belief, and collective hope. The production weaves together classical opera, choral writing and immersive sound design. Visual projections and atmospheric lighting transform the stage into a shifting world of ice, water, and wind, blurring the boundary between reality and myth. Through elemental characters and poetic imagery, Soria Moria invites audiences to confront climate change not through catastrophe, but through wonder, courage, and imagination.
