Emergency UK presents Sounds of Afghanistan A celebration of Afghan culture an evening of Afghan beats and accounts of travels to Afghanistan Afghan Beats: Veronica Doubleday and John Baily play a concert of traditional Afghan music. As well as being stunning musicians Veronica and John are leading academics of Afghan music having started their ethnomusicological research in Herat Western Afghanistan in 1973. Award winning photojournalist Giles Duley will share his account of his first trip to Afghanistan when he worked as a photographer embedded with the US army. Whilst in Afghanistan Giles stepped on an IED suffering almost fatal injuries and losing his legs and arm. Following his recovery Giles chose to return to Afghanistan to document the work of EMERGENCY. This is a rare opportunity to hear Giles share his extraordinary story. Tickets are £15 and include refreshments . All proceeds will be used in support of EMERGENCY’s Surgical Centre for Victims of War in Kabul.
