Stand up for EU nationals in Britain
29th March 2017 · 7:30pm - 11:00pm
In person | Virtual event
Three million people from the 27 other European nations live in the United Kingdom. From pulling out potatoes to putting in bathrooms, from caring for the elderly to running tech companies, and from directing operas to performing heart surgery, they play a vital role in our national life.
Unfortunately Brexit has left many confused, hurt and fearful. Some encounter official hostility when trying to establish their right to stay in the country they have been pleased to call home.
So we thought we would put on an evening to vaunt their contribution to the UK – while telling a few jokes. In the first half of the evening Ian Dunt, author of Brexit: What the Hell Happens Now? (Canbury Press), and another expert will illuminate the facts about EU nationals here and the benefits they bring. In the second half top stand up talent will turn a humorous eye on what it’s like to live in Brexit Britain. Confirmed to perform are Shazia Mirza, Sindhu Vee and Grainne Maguire.
This is an evening for and with EU nationals in the UK. It will raise funds for the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants, which campaigns for justice in immigration and asylum law.
Doors 7pm.
Tickets: £12 standard, £18 ticket (with book for collection on the night), £8 student and concessions, £14 S&C (with book for collection on the night).
