The Psychedelic Society is very pleased to be hosting an evening with two great minds of our time to consider ‘The Future of Consciousness’, in the context of increasing use and understanding of psychedelics and developments in artificial intelligence.
GRAHAM HANCOCK is a writer, journalist, and sociologist whose body of work ranges between studying poverty and health conditions to confronting mainstream archaeologists by presenting a dramatically different history for our planet. Hancock has written for The Guardian, The Independent, the Sunday Times, and was the East Africa Correspondent for The Economist between 1981-1983. Graham’s censored TED talk ‘The War on Consciousness’ featuring his experiences with ayahuasca has been viewed almost a million times (https://www.youtube.com/
DAVID PEARCE is a philosopher who promotes the idea that there exists a strong ethical imperative for humans to work towards the abolition of suffering in all sentient life. He co-founded — with Swedish polymath Nick Bostrom — the World Transhumanist Association (now Humanity+) in 1998, and the Abolitionist Society in 2002. David has written widely on artificial intelligence, bioengineering and psychedelics (see https://www.hedweb.com/
Graham and David will give presentations before we move into a discussion open to all.
A summary of Graham’s talk:
Psychedelics, Entities, ‘Dark Matter’ and Parallel Dimensions
Many people who have experimented with psychedelics have at one time or another had the experience of encounters with what appear to be intelligent, non-physical and non-human entities — and very frequently these entities appear to communicate with us telepathically and even to teach us useful knowledge. Are these entities just figments of “our brains on drugs” — mere “hallucinations” with no reality to them — or is there something else, much more mysterious and much more significant going on? In this talk Graham Hancock shares lessons from his own multiple experiences with smoked DMT, and with Ayahuasca, the Amazonian “Vine of Souls”, and draws on the latest scientific research to present a new and disturbing picture of reality.
