THE SPEAKER IS SNOWBOUND IN THE WEST OF UK
Dr Peter Ford MBE asks: Is there any other form of intelligent life out there?
We spend a lot of money trying to answer this question and our tool to do this is invisible stuff called electromagnetism. It fills the whole of space, indeed is responsible for humanity itself. If that wasn’t enough, it is also the basis of advancing human life on our planet right up to the present digital age.
The first people (Michael Faraday, James Clerk Maxwell) to get to grips with the so-called electro-magnetic spectrum did so not far from Conway Hall. How is electricity and magnetism coupled together? It took geniuses to work this out and even these outstanding thinkers could not have imagined the consequences of their discovery.
Come along and listen to and question this highly-rated and engaging speaker, Dr Peter Ford MBE who, complete with impressive demonstrations, will enlighten you on the incredible story of electromagnetism, without which, you would not exist yet alone be able to read this notice!

Peter Ford is well known for his entertaining talks, bringing the almost unbelievable stories to life of how famous people took steps, never taken before, that lead the big scientific discoveries of our time. None more dazzling than the revelation of the true nature of the invisible forces acting on us, indeed acting on anyone else is the universe. He does this with eclectic verve, scattering his talks with anecdotes and fiery demonstrations.
Peter, hailing from North London, was involved in the very first demonstration on how to produce the lowest temperatures on earth – very close to absolute zero, inventing the so-called liquid helium dilution fridge. In a distinguished career in science, he has published a book on this along with a plethora of papers in learned journals.
