Thinking on Sunday: Evidence-Based Policing

Evidence-Based Policing is the use of the best available research to inform police policy and practice. It is a systematic method to determine “what works” (and what doesn’t) to improve policing, crime reduction and to protect the public.
In this talk, Richard Honess will explain how the concept of Evidence-Based Policing came about, what it is and why it is important within contemporary policung practice. He will also explore some examples of its use, and some of the barriers to its implementation.

Richard Honess is a Senior Lecturer in Policing at Canterbury Christ Church University, Learning & Development Coordinator for the Society of Evidence-Based Policing and former police officer. His research interests include police training and education, internal development and organisational justice within the Police Service of England and Wales.
