What We Need To Do Now: Towards Net Zero Carbon Emissions

Chris Goodall shows the route to a society that emits no carbon dioxide but is also fairer, healthier and more content than at present. In this talk he will briefly go through subjects as diverse as housing, food and clothing. The transition to a sustainable UK involves making substantial lifestyle changes, as well as major investments in low carbon infrastructure. But once achieved, the impacts will benefit all of us’

Three themes dominate his book: the world – and specifically the UK – needs to take action across almost all parts of the economy. We won’t get to ‘net zero’ emmissions without a plan that covers almost every type of human activity. Second, energy is relatively easy to decarbonise while sectors such as aviation and cotton manufacture are highly complex. Third: widespread action across almost human activities is going to require an unprecedented political consensus. Hence the need for ‘Green New Deal’ that ensures that the less well-off actually benefit strongly from the actions societies take on climate.

What We Need To Do Now: Towards a New Green Deal will be available on the day for purchase.
