Yellow Lioness & Others by Jamie Boyd

Private view: 6pm, Monday 26 March.  Drinks served.  All welcome.

Exhibition opening hours: 9am-10pm daily.

Jamie Boyd embraces different types of subject matter and different qualities of light. Whether dreamlike portraits, café terraces, concert halls, or Mediterranean and Australian landscapes, he is equally skilled at capturing the softness or strength of the light. His sense of mischief tends towards surrealism, as in the lioness playing the piano.

A member of the Australian Boyd family, an artistic dynasty which stretches back generations and numbers painters, potters, musicians sculptors and architects, Jamie was brought up in England and spent much of his time painting en plein air on Hampstead Heath.

He studied at the Central School of Art and Design in the 1960s, since when his work has achieved popular success with many solo exhibitions in Australia, as well as in London, Germany, Holland and Italy. He has works in a number of public collections.

“I am drawn to the unknowable lioness – who makes an appearance in our ordered world – an emissary from the untamed wilderness to remind us of other forces…” – Jamie Boyd

The Private View on Thursday 26th March coincides with the Rhinegold piano recital in the main hall by Alexander Boyd, son of the artist. For details: conwayhall.org.uk/rhinegold  or rhinegoldlive.co.uk
